Wines of the World’s Introductory Wine Course
Who is this course aimed at?
Somebody with some knowledge of grape varieties, basic regions and wine production. This course is an ideal next step for somebody who has completed our beginner’s course.
Our goal
This course will give you good knowledge of the main wine producing regions and grape varieties. It will also improve you as a wine taster.
Course Content
Each week we will cover different countries and regions. The headings below will form the structure of each week:
• Grape varieties
• important Regions and sub regions
• Climate
• Winemaking trends
• Terroir and specific nuances as well as what makes that region unique
Week 1 Italy, Spain & Portugal
Week 2 Burgundy and the Rhone
Week 3 Bordeaux and the Loire
Week 4 Germany and Alsace
Week 5 New World – Australia & New Zealand
Week 6 New World – South Africa, USA & South America
8-10 wines are tasted per session
The evenings take place in our store on Garratt Lane. We clear the shopfloor put out a large table and a few chairs pull the curtains and get stuck in. Our courses aren’t stuffy and formal they are about enjoying wine and learning about it. Average Group size is 12 people.
Time
8 – 9.30pm (six consecutive weeks) There is half an hour at the end of each session to ask questions, re-taste wines and generally discuss all things vinous.
